Here is my weekly progress and plan for my movie opening scene project.
This is our plan for term 2:
This is my weekly progress for term 2:
Week 1
In our first week of term 2, we learned about three different stages of production:
1. Production: making the movie and setting up the goal the producers want to achieve with the movie
2. Distribution: promotes movie through trailers, posters, interviews, etc.
3. Exhibition: put in as many markets as possible, such as the theaters, tv, hotels, etc.
We also started setting up our blog for our opening scene project. I think this project will be much more complicated than the last one because we have to do more research. I am excited but scared at the same time.
Week 2
On Tuesday, we had a research focus class. Mr. Nick told us to research deeper into our genre, found footage horror, by finding movie references and the conventions they conform and subvert to. I learned that it is important to get used to using technical elements and media language to earn better scores on my research. I strive to use more technical elements and media language in my research blogs. Although others might find researching complicated and frustrating, personally, I love researching because it is relaxing and enjoyable. Other than that, learning new things through multiple different movies is a fun way of expanding my knowledge on media.
Week 3
We continued our research on genre without Mr. Nick in class because he was sick. We were told that our research should be done next Monday because he was going to start grading them the next day. I enjoy researching more about genre, but I hate how the big researches required us to include so much information. I was nervous about not getting it done on time, so I spent the rest of the sessions researching.
Week 4
I found out that I got a 100% for my research blogs, I was so happy. I spent a lot of time and barely had enough sleep so I'm proud that my hard work payed off. On Tuesday, we started on our statement of intent. Lamiya wasn't there so only the three of us worked on it. We thought that we might make changes in the future.
Other than that, we also learned some new theories, such as cross media convergence, horizontal integration, synergy, uses and gratifications and many more.
Week 5
For this week, we had a test about media consolidation on Wednesday. However, I was absent on that day because I was sick, so I missed it. Apparently, I heard that something funny happened during the test. Someone used chatgpt to answer the question and Mr. Nick got really upset over that. Everyone ended up doing the test on paper without notes LOL.
Then, on Friday, me and my friend Gusde did the test in class while everyone else was grading each others' test papers. I was nervous at first, but I was grateful that Mr. Nick helped us out by giving us tips and example answers before our test. The test was medium difficulty, and I hope that I did pretty well on that.
Other than that, we also spent the week starting on our storyboards, scripts and screenplays. I'm in charge of our storyboard. I just know that I'd have to do so much work from now on, and I have to manage my time well.
Week 6
On Tuesday, Mr. Nick gave us a checklist for our blogs to make sure that we finish everything on time. There are four sections to tick, which are "complete", "label", "reflection" and "blogpost". We also have to write down our plan on how we're going to complete it. I'm proud to say that I've ticked quite a lot of boxes for many different blogposts. I feel motivated to finish them because of the checklist.
Furthermore, I spent my time checking, editing and completing my blogposts. I plan to spend my time finishing my blogposts to reduce the stress from compiling tasks. I haven't continued our storyboard, but Kristine gave me an overview of how she wants it to turn out like. She told me that I'd just have to perfect it so it looks nicer.
In addition to that, we made our screen test together as a class with Mr. Nick's help. Mr. Nick prepared a number of cliche lines for us to say and act out in front of a camera. We all took turns doing that and I had so much fun. The whole class kept laughing at how everyone tried acting it out in their own ways. He then used Capcut to compile all of the videos and posted it on Youtube for us to add into our blog.
On Wednesday, it was just another project lesson. I took my checklist back from Mr. Nick and continued my blog. I think the rest of the week will be the same.
On the last school day of the week, we continued our blog as the deadline is next Wednesday. I am nearly done with the less important blogs, but I still have to continue the more important ones such as the storyboard and script/screenplay. I am going to continue my blog over the weekend/whenever I'm free.
Week 7
In this week, we only had one project lesson, which was on Tuesday. For the rest of the classes of the week, we spent time practicing for our Semestral Exam coming up next week. On Wednesday, we practiced on Section A, which was analyzing a text. On Friday, we focused on Section B. I'm so nervous for my the exams. I think I need more practice in order to be able to manage my time well for Section A. I hope I can do this.
Reflection⡠﹞⚘﹝⠢
One thing I like about making this blogpost is how I'm allowed to express my feelings and thoughts on our activities in class every weeks. It feels like writing a diary while also keeping track of my progress. However, sometimes I forget updating them every week so it would usually pile up. It's not that big of a problem, although it's difficult to recall all the things we did in class. I've been getting better and more consistent in updating my weekly progress every week.

Term 3
This is our plan for term 3:
This is my weekly progress for term 3:
Week 1
This week, we practiced recreating a scene from a found footage movie we chose, which was Paranormal Activity 3. It was a lot of fun, but at the same time also challenging due to the unsuitable location and lack of props.
Week 2
In this week, we practiced editing as well as continue to edit our project. We had a theory lesson, where we studied about the audience. The theories are cultivation theory, desensitization theory, social learning theory and reception theory.
Week 3
We learned about dominant readings, and then applied it to our own movie opening project. After comparing our progress with our first statement of intent, nothing much has changed. Our group finished filming and are now editing/finalizing the whole thing before the deadline.
Other than that, we also learned three more theories this week: Laura Mulvey, Liesbet Van Zoonen and Judith Butler.
Week 4
We only had 2 sessions of media lesson this week due to the three days Chinese new year break. In these 2 sessions, we continued editing our opening scene on CapCut. With Mr. Nick's help, we brainstormed on how to connect our opening scene with the actual movie.
Week 5
National holiday, school was closed. During this time, I continued editing our video. Mr. Nick assigned us with the audience feedback task where we had to make a google forms and give it out to three different people.
Week 6
We started CCR 1 and 2. With the help of Mr. Nick's template, I was able to get a head start really easily on CCR 1. However, school was closed at the time due to Bali's extreme weather conditions, so it was a little difficult to ask him questions in order to address my confusions. Additionally, we also finished up our audience feedback (responses and blog post) because it was due on Thursday.
Week 7
We started on CCR 3 and 4 in class. Before this, Mr. Nick briefed us again about CCR 1 and 2, hence I was able to get a better understanding on the tasks I have to complete. While making my CCR 3 and 4, I had no difficulties because he made us two other templates for both of them, which made it so much easier and less time consuming. Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming amount of mock tests, it's been difficult for me to continue all of my projects.
Week 8
This week we mostly focused on mock tests to get our final semestral exam scores. On the first day, we discussed the first mock test we had, specifically on how to answer the questions properly so that we can do better on the next mock tests. On the second day we had our second mock test. Lastly, on the third day, we had a project lesson because Mr. Nick went away for camping with the 12th graders.
Week 9
This week we had our last mock test, so I found it difficult to spare time to complete my project (editing). For the rest of the week, all of our classes have been project lessons because the due date is just next week! I'm really scared we won't be able to complete everything on time.
Week 10
This week, we spent all of our lessons completing our project. It felt quite stressful because the deadline was so near and me and my teammates were struggling to finish everything on time. However, we are extremely happy about our final video and we tried our best to explain everything in our blogs and CCRs. Overall, I'm really satisfied with this project, and I hope we can do better in the next project.
Reflection𖤣𖥧
Overall, all of the hardships me and my teammates went through for this project were all worth it. I love how my final video turned out, and I'm also glad it got good reviews from Mr. Nick. I felt particularly stressed this time because I had to manage mock tests with these as well. However, I still managed to force myself to push through. I hope that during our next project, we won't be as busy. As usual, I'll keep trying to improve my time management skills so I can stop staying up late every night before the deadline.
